In this study, a neutrophilic, heterotrophic bacterium (strain Paddy-2) that is capable of ferrous iron [Fe(II)] oxidation coupled with nitrate (NO₃⁻) reduction (NRFO) under anoxic conditions was isolated from paddy soil.
