- Hopea; antioxidant activity; hydrogen peroxide; in vitro studies; leaf extracts; methylene chloride; trees; wood; wood extractives
- Abstract:
- ... Antioxidant activities of wood and leaf extracts of Hopea erosa were investigated using five in vitro assays. Dichloromethane (DCM) and methanolic extracts were found to exhibit higher antioxidant activity compared to chloroform extract. The activity of DCM extract of leaf was higher in H ₂O ₂ and hydroxyl scavenging assays with 95.04 % and 93 % respectively. DPPH, FRAP and ABTS assays were highly ...

- Abstract:
- ... Fourteen (14) medicinal plants used by traditional medical practitioners in treating sexually transmitted diseases and common ailments were selected after an ethno-botanical survey of five districts from Zimbabwe. Plant extracts were screened for phytochemical composition, antioxidant activity by reducing 2,2-diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radical with ®-carotene as reference and through tota ...

- Abstract:
- ... In this study, physicochemical properties of Nigella Sativa L. seed oils original from Tunisia (NST) Libya (SNL) and Saudi Arabia (NSS) extracted in Soxhlet apparatus using hexane were investigated. The fatty acids and sterols in different oils were also identified by GC-MS. Antioxidants content and the measure of their antioxidant capacity was also performed. The following results were obtained f ...

- Abstract:
- ... Essential oils of Algerian Juniperus phoenicea L. obtained from leaves and berries by hydrodistillation (HD) and from berries by Solvent Free Microwave Assisted Extraction (SFMAE) were investigated using both capillary GC and GC-MS techniques. The monoterpene hydrocarbons constituted the most prominent group of constituents (43.2-86.5 %) in the three essential oils with α-pinene (34.4-80.8 %) as t ...

- Abstract:
- ... The essential oil of Algerian Satureja calamintha subsp. nepeta (L.) Briq. obtained by hydrodistillation, was investigated using both capillary GC and GC-MS techniques and assayed for its antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. Twenty six components representing 98.2 % of the oil were characterized. Oxygenated monoterpenes (97.4 %) was the predominant class with pulegone (39.5 %), neo-menthol (3 ...

- Abstract:
- ... The Syzygium calophyllifolium is a large evergreen tree growing in higher altitude in Southern Western Ghats, India. The ethyl acetate extract of leaves contain higher proportions of sesquiterpenoids and triterpenoid compounds that showed effective antimicrobial screening against some of bacterial and fungal strains. The extract showed maximum inhibition zones against Enterococcus faecalis and Tri ...

- Abstract:
- ... Kadam (Neolamarkia cadamba Roxb.) tree has wide spectrum bioactivities such as analgesic, antipyretic, anti inflammatory hypolipidemic and antidiabetic. However, very little is known about its antioxidant properties. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to investigate phyto-constitution and antioxidant properties of leaves and fruits of N. cadamba . Extracts of the leaves and fruits prepare ...
