- Abstract:
- ... This study aimed to enhance the water solubility and antioxidant properties of mangiferin by transglucosylation using cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase (CGTase) from Thermoanaerobacter sp. The highest mangiferin to mangiferin glucoside conversion yield achieved was 88.9% using 60 mU/mL CGTase, 25 mM mangiferin, and 10% starch (w/v), with incubation at 60 °C for 10 h. The product of transglucosylati ...

- Abstract:
- ... Peyssonnoside A is a marine-derived sulfated diterpenoid glucoside with a unique 5/6/3/6 tetracyclic skeleton with a highly substituted cyclopropane ring deeply embedded into the structure. Herein, we report the first total synthesis of this natural product in a concise, efficient, scalable, and highly diastereoselective fashion. The aglucone peyssonnosol was synthesized in 21% overall yield after ...

- Abstract:
- ... A flavone glucoside ‘vitexin’ (C₂₁H₂₀O₁₀) was isolated from the leaves of Lantana camara through bioassay-guided isolation. Kupchan method of solvent-solvent partitioning of crude methanol extract from leaves of L. camara gave ethyl acetate, chloroform, hexane and aqueous fraction. Bio-assay with four fractions at 500 ppm, 1000 ppm and 10,000 ppm indicated chloroform fraction to be most potent phy ...

- Abstract:
- ... Anthocyanins (ACN) are pigments with vivid colors, but their application as food colorants is restricted by their limited stability and color expression. Anthocyanins exhibit higher stability in dairy systems than in buffers at similar pH, suggesting that pigments may be able to interact with dairy components such as proteins, resulting in improved performance as colorants. Our objective was to de ...

Although a large number of glycosylated aurone derivatives have been isolated from plant sources, no syntheses have been reported yet. Inspired from this gap, here we report the first synthesis of peracetylated glycosyl derivatives of synthetic aurones. The direct O-glycosylation ...

- Abstract:
- ... The phenolic composition of virgin olive oil (VOO) is strongly determined by the content and distribution of secoiridoid phenolic glucosides present in the olive fruit. Among them, oleuropein is the most abundant in olive mesocarp and is characterized by containing an hydroxytyrosol residue in its chemical structure. Hydroxytyrosol-containing molecules are those that exhibit the most important bio ...

- Abstract:
- ... Facile preparation of the α-C-vinyl and -aryl glycosides has been developed via mild Ni-catalyzed reductive vinylation and arylation of C1-glycosyl halides with vinyl/aryl halides. Good to high α-selectivities were achieved for C-glucosides, galactosides, maltoside, and mannosides, which were dictated by the employment of pyridine type ligands. As such, the present work represents unprecedented co ...

- Abstract:
- ... The mycotoxins alternariol and alternariol-9-O-methyl ether have recently been reported to be extensively conjugated with glucose and malonyl glucose in tobacco suspension cells. However, only trace amounts of glucosylated conjugates were detected in tomatoes inoculated with Alternaria alternata in the present study. Instead, mostly sulfate conjugates were observed. In studies using cultures of A. ...

- ... Synthetic branched-chain glycolipids are suitable as model systems in understanding biological cell membranes, particularly because certain natural lipids possess chain branching. Herein, four branched-chain glycopyranosides, namely, 2-hexyl-decyl-α-d-glucopyranoside (α-Glc–OC₁₀C₆), 2-hexyl-decyl-β-d-glucopyranoside (β-Glc–OC₁₀C₆), 2-hexyl-decyl-α-d-galactopyranoside (α-Gal–OC₁₀C₆), and 2-hexyl-de ...

- Abstract:
- ... Ethyl acetate (EtOAc) layer obtained after the solvent fractionation of hot water extracts from nutgall tree (Rhus javanica) stem bark showed higher α-glucosidase inhibition activity than other layers. A novel acetophenone glucoside (4) and six known phenolic compounds were isolated from the EtOAc layer. The structure of 4 was determined to be 3,4,5-trihydroxyacetophenone 4-O-β-D-glucopyranoside. ...

- Abstract:
- ... Piceid is widely used in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals because of its therapeutic benefits. However, the use of piceid as a drug is limited because of its low solubility. To increase solubility, we synthesized piceid glucosides using maltosyltransferase from Caldicellulosiruptor bescii. The MTase gene was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The enzyme had a unique transfer specificity ...

- ... Isoflavones significantly contribute to human health and disease prevention, and exist as glucosides and aglycones. The β-glucosidase enzyme that hydrolyzes glucosides to aglycones is very sensitive to molecular structure, and thus the profile of the isoflavones can affect their rate of hydrolysis. Soymilk was fermented with Lactobacillus acidophilus B4496 (La), Lactobacillus bulgaricus CFR2028 (L ...
