Abstract:
Introduction: In an earlier survey of blood parasites in birds from Hertfordshire (Peirce & Mead, 1977), carried out during the Summer and Autumn, it was suggested that the low incidence of patent infections may have been seasonal and that most parasitaemias observed were relapses rather than primary infections. To determine whether this was the case, we have examined birds during the Spring period commencing at the time when trans-Saharan migrants were returning. Reported here are the results of the survey.
