Adenine nucleotide content and energy charge of Azotobacter vinelandii during batch growth in dialysedâsoil medium

- The levels of intracellular adenine nucleotides, energy charge and oxygen consumption, have been investigated in vegetative cells of Azotobacter vinelandii grown in chemicallyâdefined medium and dialysedâsoil medium. Microorganisms cultured in dialysedâsoil medium displayed lower oxygen consumption activities and energy charge values than those cultured in chemicallyâdefined medium. Also, the ATP/ADP ratio was much higher in vegetative cells grown in chemicallyâdefined medium, and the intracellular levels of ATP were lower in cells cultured in dialysedâsoil medium.
