Adenine nucleotide content and energy charge of Azotobacter vinelandii during batch growth in dialysed‐soil medium

Abstract:
The levels of intracellular adenine nucleotides, energy charge and oxygen consumption, have been investigated in vegetative cells of Azotobacter vinelandii grown in chemically‐defined medium and dialysed‐soil medium. Microorganisms cultured in dialysed‐soil medium displayed lower oxygen consumption activities and energy charge values than those cultured in chemically‐defined medium. Also, the ATP/ADP ratio was much higher in vegetative cells grown in chemically‐defined medium, and the intracellular levels of ATP were lower in cells cultured in dialysed‐soil medium.
