Abstract:
A Golgi-localized polytopic integral membrane protein, EMP12, was shown to contain an endoplasmic reticulum export signal (FVY) and a Golgi retention signal (K X E/D) that interact with COPII and COPI subunits, respectively, in Arabidopsis cells. These sorting signals are highly conserved in all plant EMP isoforms and, thus, likely represent a general mechanism for EMP targeting in plant cells.
