Abstract:
The sporangial distribution patterns occurring in the strobili of 30 species of Selaginella subgenus Stachygynandrum from Africa and Madagascar are described. The patterns of sporangial distribution can be put into eight major Types and five Variations of three Types. Even though some species exhibit more than one Type and/or Variation, the distribution pattern is consistent for each species and can be regarded as one of the characters useful in the taxonomy of the subgenus.
