- âFengzaoâ is an early-ripening cultivar selected from the bud mutations of âKyohoâ. The botanical and biological characteristics were investigated for nearly ten years. It was propagated by cutting and grafting continuously. The results showed that the early-ripening trait is very stable and there are some minor differences in botanical characters and biological characteristics between the bud mutation cultivars and the parents. Moreover, the most significant variation is the berry ripening time. The berry of âFengzaoâ matured in early July in Luoyang, while for the berry of âKyohoâ, it ripens in the middle of August. The fruit developing period of âFengzaoâ is 36 d shorter than âKyohoâ. The change of berry early-ripening trait of âFengzaoâ is very dramatic and it is a valuable early ripening grape cultivar for the grape industry.
