The Influence of Weight and Temperature on the Metabolic Rate of Sunfish
- O'Hara, James
- Ecology 1968 v.49 no.1 pp. 159-161
- Lepomis macrochirus, fish, metabolism, oxygen consumption, temperature
- Oxygen consumption was determined for sunfish between 1.4 and 116.0 g at 25° and 30°C. Metabolic rates of smaller fish are less affected by temperature change than those of large fish. Interspecific comparison indicates that bluegills (Lepomis macrochirus) are better adapted to higher temperatures than pumpkinseeds (L. gibbosus).
