Paradox of Enrichment in Competitive Systems
- Riebesell, John F.
- Ecology 1974 v.55 no.1 pp. 183-187
- ecological competition, ecosystems, extinction, prediction
- Enrichment of competitive ecosystems may, in certain cases, lead to the extinction, rather than the enhancement, of desirable species. Simply testing for the effects of enrichment in a controlled situation, where natural competitors may be absent, will not be sufficient to predict the potential results of resource modification in natural systems.
