Mycelial growth performance of the Pleurotus eryngii species complex strains on different temperatures

The cost of production of cultivated mushroom has increased in recent years. The most important factors affecting these costs are labor, energy and substrate materials. Pure cultures used in this study were obtained in aseptic condition from the fresh mushroom tissue collected from different geographical regions of Turkey. 28 different strains of P. eryngii species complex and were grown on four temperature ranges (15-20-25-30°C) to obtain low and high temperature tolerant isolates. The project aim was to decrease the energy costs of cultivating king oyster mushroom. A growth temperature of 25°C was the best for the most of the strains for mycelial growth rate (3.35 mm day-1) although some cultures, especially var. nebrodensis strains, grew better at 20°C. The slowest mycelial growth rate (0.90 mm day-1) was at 15°C. Mycelial growth rate were 2.84 and 2.39 mm day-1 at 20 and 30°C respectively. The mycelial growth rates were changed due the temperatures and the mycelial growth rates of variety eryngii strains of K7, K16, K20, K46 and K51 were high, on the other hand var. nebrodensis strains of K118, K121 were low.
