Study on the fiber distribution in a drafting zone

Abstract:
This paper presents a model in a time domain to simulate the dynamic drafting process based on calculated movement time of individual fibers, and provide an approach to investigate the quantitative variation in fiber numbers in a drafting zone. The model was validated by the newly obtained experimental data of sliver irregularities and attenuation curves. The effect of parameters on the drafting process was simulated and discussed based on the experiments. It is shown that the linear density of input strand only changes the fiber number in a drafting zone, but has no effect on the dynamic drafting process; the draft ratio and fiber length have effect on the fiber distributions in a drafting zone; the slow-floating fibers are the most significant parts among them, which eventually results in the total number of fibers in a drafting zone fluctuating.
