The Influence of Head Control and Variable Pressure on Uniform Distribution in Pressure Distribution Systems for On-Site Waste Treatment

Abstract:
The effects of variable pressure in a pressure distri-bution system have been studied. The system utilized was a pressure distribution system which compensates for differences in lateral line elevations by using friction head. The approach, proposed by Mote (1984), uses small diameter pipe in line with large diameter pipe so that any gain in head due to decreasing elevation within the system is compensated by frictional head loss. The conclusion was drawn that the head control devices in such systems, which add cost and complexity, can be eliminated in the design scheme. Distribution remained acceptable throughout a fairly wide range of pressures (0.3 to 3.2 m).
