Height increment models for Austrian forests

Abstract:
Over 14.500 five year height increment measurements across 1.300 different plots from all over Austria were used to develop height increment models to predict the 5 year height increment for all major tree species in Austria. The only exception was common beech because no adequate height increment data were available. Based on an independent data set the basic approach taken was evaluated for possible systematic trends. No systematic deviations in the resulting tree height increment predictions were detectable suggesting that the developed height increment models are suitable to predict the tree height development within the growth and yield simulator PROGNAUS.
