Application of sample inventory data for prognosis, harvest planning and silvicultural improvement in a forest district

Abstract:
This paper focuses on the silvicultural improvement of wood production in forest districts. A method is shown to construct representative stands based on inventory data taken from the municipal forest district Traunstein, located in Upper Bavaria. A representative stand in this context is considered a virtual unit, which is constructed by grouping data by site conditions as well as by stand types. The representative stands constructed for the Traunstein district were analysed using the growth simulator SILVA. Taking into account some selected criteria for production, optima were found for harvesting age and the silvicultural treatment concept.
