The Accessibility and Internal Tensions of Mercerized Cottons, Determined by Means of a Mild Hydrolysis Treatment
- de Boer, J. J., Borsten, H.
- cotton, drying, fabrics, hydrolysis, mercerization, polymerization, steam, textile fibers
- If the effect of mild hydrolysis by acid and steam on the degree of polymerization of cotton is interpreted in terms of reactivity and accessibility and if the reactivity is related to the presence of internal tensions, it is possible to find good agreement between these properties and the structural changes which have taken place as a consequence of different swelling and drying treatments.
