Effect of cross-fertilizer pollination on fruit yield and fruit quality of Prunus armeniaca 'Küzlük Ürük'

The primary aim of this study was to understand the cross-fertilization compatibility and the xenia effect of different pollens from different pollinizers in Prunus armeniaca ‘Küzlük Ürük’, and to screen the pollination combinations with high cross-fertilization compatibility and positive xenia effect by conducting a hybridization test of 14 local cultivars with ‘Küzlük Ürük’ in Xinjiang. The results showed that cross-fertilization of all 14 pollinizers increased fruit-set percentage of ‘Küzlük Ürük’, in which the cross compatibility of P. armeniaca ‘Jaghda Maysam’ with ‘Küzlük Ürük’ was the highest (fruit-set percentage 31.5%). Meanwhile, cross-fertilization of all 14 pollinizers effectively improved the physical characteristics of ‘Küzlük Ürük’ fruit, but most of them showed a negative or less positive effect in enhancing the fruit biochemical characteristics, with a decline in the ascorbic acid content of the hybrid fruit of ‘Küzlük Ürük’. P. armeniaca ‘Tarhan Ürük’ was found to be a more favorable candidate pollinizer for ‘Küzlük Ürük’ for its higher cross-compatibility with ‘Küzlük Ürük’ and positive effects on fruit size and quality of ‘Küzlük Ürük’.
