Analogue runoff model with surface storage: test on plots and extrapolation to a homogeneous slope

Abstract:
An analogue runoff model is proposed with surface storage and in which infiltration increases with water depth on the soil. Numerical fitting of three model parameters gave a correct modelling of runoff measured on seven 1 m2 plots during 40 simulated rainfalls with variable intensity, including transient stages. Extrapolation of the model to a homogeneous slope gives a description of runoff evolution, in time and space, under variable intensity rainfall. The principal result is the uniformity of runoff, downstream of a limit that increases with time towards an asymptote during rainfall. The limit and the asymptote increase with rain intensity and imperviousness of the soil.
