Cytotoxicity of Natural Alantolactones Conjugated to Substituted Piperazines

Abstract:
Previously unknown conjugates of substituted piperazines with various functional groups on the N atom and the natural sesquiterpene lactones alantolactone, isoalantolactone, and alloalantolactone, the main constituents of the plant Inula helenium, were synthesized using Michael reaction. Cytotoxicity of the natural sesquiterpene lactones and their conjugates was studied in vitro. The compounds were shown to exhibit antiproliferative properties against various tumor cell lines.
