Studies on the Nature of Resistance in Alfalfa to Two Species of Root-Knot Nematodes

- Meloidogyne hapla, Meloidogyne javanica, alfalfa, nematode larvae, root-knot nematodes
- SynopsisAn example is reported in which penetration of Meloidogyne hapla larvae into resistant alfalfa plants was totally inhibited. A grafting analysis established that this resistance was not due to a translocated top-produced compound but was an inherent property of the root. In contrast to the results with M. hapla, nematode larvae of M. javanica javanica did enter plants resistant to this species but were not able to reproduce.
